Ceiling Fan Light Switch Pull Chain Not Working

If your ceiling fan or the light on the fan doesn t work when the chain is pulled then the problem is most likely a broken fan pull chain switch.

The pull chain is working ok for the fan. Replace the old switch with a new pull chain switch then place the end cap back onto the light fixture. You can do this from the circuit panel in your home. The small switch where the pull chain attaches should now be visible.

The switch will also need to be replaced if the chain will not pull down or if it broke off inside the fan housing. Remove the old switch. Disconnect these wires and pull out the switch. Carefully reattach the wires from the switch to the light remembering to pair black to black and ground to ground.

The first thing i would do in a situation like this is to consider replacing the pull chain light switch. But the pull chain i have for the light is not working. Locate the wire connections from the pull chain switch to the unit. You ll need to remove the light kit from the fan and take out the light switch inside.

Once the power is shut off look at the base of the fan where the light kit is attached. To fix and replace a bad on off light switch inside the ceiling fan. Remove the light fixture housing from the fan. First shut off the power running to the fan.
